Fossils fuels have been powering economies for over 150 years and currently supply about 80 percent of the world's energy.

Eighty-seven percent of all human-produced carbon emissions come from the combustion of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas, and oil.

Burning these fuels discharges energy, most commonly turned into heat, electricity, or energy for transportation. Some examples are power plants, cars, planes, and industrial facilities.

In this process, carbon is produced, which accumulates in the atmosphere, affecting our planet's climate.
